Seaside

Named so because of the coastal tower that dominates it, the seaside resort of Torre Colimena is interesting, from a naturalistic point of view, for its low and steep limestone cliff. This cliff, lashed by the waves, offers in its cracks a foothold for very specialized halophilous plants such as perennial salicornia, elecampane, hairy frank grass and the endemic Salento limonium. The latter is an exclusive species of Salento and therefore more deserving of protection than the others. Torre Colimena is characterized by mostly rocky beaches, the town is home to a 16th century watchtower. and a small natural inlet, which serves as a marina. Focal point of the surrounding Nature Reserves, it boasts a great tradition in the sale and culinary preparation of fresh fish. Starting from summer 2021, the CERAMICS MUSEUM will be born inside the Colimena Tower. In fact, on the second and third floors of the Tower you can observe a singular collection of ceramic artefacts called «Keramo and Bacco». This collection, inaugurated in 2006 by Prof. Elio Scarciglia, showcases ceramic containers of different types and eras. It should be noted that the first floor of the Colimena Tower can be used free of charge, while access to the Ceramics Museum and the Terrace is accessible exclusively with a guided tour.
