Along the Ionian coast there is the beach called Monaco Mirante, in the Campomarino di Maruggio area and is located after San Pietro in Bevagna. The beach takes its name from an ancient farmhouse behind the sandy dunes separated from the sea and the coastal road. The surrounding environment is made up of stretches of rock that offer shade, alternating with intimate sandy coves, in an up and down between colorful and fragrant bushes of thyme, juniper, yellow lawn and Mediterranean scrub plants. The Campomarino Dune extends for approximately six kilometres, proceeding westwards along the coast road, and is also included in the S.I.C. of the “Natura 2000 Network”. In the past it was covered by coastal scrub with junipers which also developed into trees. The vegetation is characterized by prickly juniper and Phoenician juniper shrubs and, in the most degraded parts, by a garrigue of thyme and helichrysum. This dune is also interesting for the flora of the cliffs overlooking the sea which includes, among the many species, limonio virgato and sea fennel. In short, a fascinating and colorful environment that is absolutely worth visiting.
